PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Whispering Pines follows a narrow passage through a deeply snow-covered forest, where towering conifers rise on either side beneath the weight of winter. Fresh snow gathers heavily across sweeping evergreen branches, smaller woodland shrubs and the uneven forest floor, softening the landscape into layers of white and muted blue-grey.
A gently winding trail draws the eye towards the centre of the woodland, disappearing between increasingly distant trees. Subtle impressions and irregularities disturb the powdery surface, while banks of accumulated snow reveal the contours of rocks and low vegetation beneath. To either side, dark trunks and occasional glimpses of evergreen needles provide contrast against the surrounding frost.
Above the trail, low sunlight breaks through a softly clouded winter sky. Warm cream and pale gold filter between the treetops, illuminating suspended moisture in the cold air and casting delicate light across the snow below. The restrained warmth against the cool forest creates a quiet sense of depth, transforming an otherwise subdued winter woodland into a softly luminous landscape.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
Northern conifer forests are shaped by some of the most demanding seasonal conditions experienced by trees. Spruce, pine and fir species may endure months of freezing temperatures, deep snow and periods when water remains locked within frozen ground. Many retain their foliage throughout winter, with narrow needles and waxy outer coatings helping to reduce moisture loss during these cold, dry conditions.
Their characteristic forms also provide advantages in snowy climates. Flexible branches can bend beneath accumulating snow, while sloping growth allows some of that weight to fall away before it becomes damaging. Dense evergreen canopies influence conditions below them as well, intercepting snowfall, reducing wind and creating considerable variation in snow depth across the forest floor.
Fresh snow can even alter how a winter forest sounds. Loosely accumulated snow contains numerous tiny air spaces that absorb and scatter sound energy, reducing the distance and intensity with which some sounds travel. As the snow compacts, melts or develops a harder icy surface, its acoustic behaviour changes.
The remarkable stillness experienced after heavy snowfall therefore has a physical basis, winter temporarily changes not only the appearance of the forest, but its acoustic landscape as well.

Our art and canvas prints are produced to order, allowing each piece to be carefully prepared and checked before leaving the studio. Production and dispatch times may vary depending on the print format, size and finishing requirements selected. Please refer to the individual product page for any specific production timeframes.
We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
