PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Three in the Flower Box captures three tiny yellow chicks nestled unexpectedly amongst the flowers of an old cottage window box. Gathered closely together, their round bodies and soft down rise above a tangle of greenery, while small pink and white blossoms surround them like a miniature garden.
Behind the trio, an aged timber window with peeling paint gives the scene a gently weathered character, contrasting with the freshness of the flowers and the chicks' pale golden colouring. Daisies and delicate sprays of pink and lilac spill across the planter and tumble over its worn wooden edge, creating pockets of colour around the three small visitors. Warm late-afternoon sunlight filters through the garden, catching the chicks' down and illuminating the flowers with a soft golden glow. Perched together in their unlikely little garden retreat, the trio transforms an ordinary cottage window box into a wonderfully unexpected gathering place.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Domestic Chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) begins life remarkably well prepared for the world outside the egg. Unlike the helpless newborns of many mammals and birds, chicken chicks are precocial: they hatch covered in down, with their eyes open, and can stand and walk within hours. Soon they begin pecking at their surroundings and learning to recognise suitable food.
Much of this early learning takes place by watching and responding to the mother hen. She uses distinctive calls to attract her chicks towards food, warn them of possible danger and encourage them to gather beneath her for warmth and protection. Chicks themselves begin communicating before they even hatch, producing faint vocalisations from inside the egg.
Although mobile from their first day, young chicks cannot initially maintain their body temperature as effectively as adults. They regularly return beneath the hen's feathers to warm themselves before venturing out again. Over the following weeks, their fluffy down is progressively replaced by juvenile feathers as their bodies grow and their independence increases.
