PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Sleeping Circle gathers three young Grey Wolf pups into a close sleeping circle among a carpet of flowering heather. Curled tightly against one another, their small bodies overlap at the centre of the composition, with lowered heads, closed eyes and loosely tucked tails creating an intimate picture of complete relaxation.
Their dense juvenile coats blend soft grey, fawn and cream tones, each subtly different beneath the filtered woodland light. Around them, clusters of tiny purple flowers rise through moss and low vegetation, enclosing the littermates within a naturally sheltered hollow. Weathered stones emerge along the margins, while the surrounding vegetation gradually softens into shadow.
Warm light enters from above, touching the pups' backs and illuminating individual guard hairs without disturbing the subdued character of the scene. The circular arrangement of their bodies gives the composition a natural sense of unity, while their physical closeness becomes its defining detail: three vulnerable young animals resting not separately, but instinctively pressed against the familiar warmth of one another.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Grey Wolf (Canis lupus) is profoundly social from the beginning of life. Pups are normally born as members of a litter and spend their earliest weeks in almost continuous proximity to their mother and siblings, making physical contact one of their first experiences of belonging to a family group.
Newborn wolf pups cannot regulate their body temperature as effectively as adults, so the warmth provided by their mother, littermates and sheltered den is particularly important. Huddling reduces exposed body surface and allows neighbouring pups to share warmth. Even as they grow stronger and become increasingly capable of regulating their own temperature, resting together remains a normal part of their social lives.
Littermates also become a pup's earliest play partners. Through wrestling, chasing, mouthing and other interactions, young wolves begin learning the physical and behavioural signals used in communication. Relationships formed during this period contribute to the cooperative social environment in which wolves mature.
Adult wolves likewise commonly rest in proximity to other members of their family group. For a wolf, closeness begins long before the complex cooperation of adulthood, the foundations of pack life are already present among a litter of sleeping pups.

Grey Wolf (Canis lupus)
A wolf pack is fundamentally a family, rather than simply a collection of unrelated animals organised around dominance. Most packs are centred on a breeding pair and their offspring from one or more years, creating overlapping generations of siblings and parents that travel, rest and cooperate together. Young pups spend their earliest weeks close to the den, where their survival depends not only upon their mother but upon the combined efforts of other family members. Fathers and older offspring may bring food, remain near the pups and help protect them while the mother is occupied with nursing and care.
These family relationships continue long after pups have left the den. Wolves maintain social bonds through close physical contact, play, grooming, scent and an extensive repertoire of facial expressions, body postures and vocalisations. Cooperation allows a pack to defend territory, raise young and pursue prey that would be difficult for an individual wolf to tackle alone. Because wolf societies are built upon these long-term relationships, the loss of breeding adults or other experienced pack members can alter family structure and disrupt established patterns of cooperation. Understanding wolves as social families with learned relationships has therefore become an important part of studying and managing wild populations.
