PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Orchard Nap captures two tiny tabby kittens curled together inside a weathered wooden fruit crate on a warm autumn afternoon. Nestled cheek to cheek, the sleeping pair lie with their small paws overlapping, surrounded by fallen leaves and freshly gathered apples.
The rough timber of the old crate provides a rustic frame around their soft striped coats, its worn boards, iron fixings and faded traces of paint contrasting with the kittens' fine juvenile fur. Red and gold apples are scattered amongst the crate and across the timber beneath it, while crisp autumn leaves in shades of copper, amber and crimson gather around their makeshift bed.
Low golden sunlight streams across the scene, illuminating the edges of tiny ears and individual whiskers while casting a warm glow through the surrounding foliage. Completely undisturbed by their unlikely choice of sleeping place, the two littermates have transformed an ordinary harvest crate into a cosy retreat made perfectly for two.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Domestic Cat (Felis catus) kittens are born into litters in which close physical contact plays an important role from the very beginning. Newborn kittens cannot regulate their body temperature effectively, so they instinctively gather beside their mother and littermates, sharing warmth while spending much of their earliest life sleeping and nursing.
As their senses and mobility develop, littermates also become some of their first social partners. Young kittens wrestle, chase, pounce and stalk one another, practising movements that develop coordination while learning how other cats respond to touch, play and increasingly energetic interactions. These early exchanges contribute to the development of normal feline social behaviour.
Even during rest, kittens commonly sleep curled against one another. Contact provides warmth during early development and reflects the close association established within the litter. As the weeks pass, the once-dependent newborns become increasingly adventurous and independent, yet sleeping together can remain a familiar behaviour, one small reminder that some of a kitten's earliest experiences of comfort, play and companionship begin alongside its brothers and sisters.

Our fine art and canvas prints are produced to order, allowing each piece to be carefully prepared and checked before leaving the studio. We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
