PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Buttermilk Bath captures two young piglets sitting side by side in a rustic wooden tub filled almost to the brim with creamy buttermilk. Their forelegs rest against the milky surface as both look outward with bright, inquisitive expressions, their oversized pink ears glowing translucently in the warm afternoon light.
The bath has clearly become a somewhat enthusiastic affair. Drops of buttermilk cling to the piglets' fine facial hair, trickle from their cheeks and ears, and scatter through the air around them. Their dampened coats remain delicately visible beneath the moisture, while the pale liquid ripples gently around their bodies and spills in creamy streaks down the weathered timber staves.
Behind them, an old metal milk churn and a cluster of tiny white daisies reinforce the pastoral setting. More flowers gather around the straw at the base of the tub, while folded cloths resting nearby suggest that somebody may eventually have to deal with the resulting mess.
Warm backlighting transforms the flying droplets into tiny points of light, giving the scene its playful character while preserving the tactile realism of wet skin, fine bristles, old wood, straw and creamy liquid.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Domestic Pig (Sus scrofa domesticus) possesses sensory abilities that make its familiar snout far more sophisticated than its appearance might suggest. Pigs rely heavily upon smell to investigate their surroundings, recognise other individuals, locate food and gather information about their environment.
Their characteristic snout combines a highly developed sense of smell with remarkable physical sensitivity. At its tip is a firm, flexible disc supported by cartilage and supplied with numerous sensory receptors. This allows pigs not only to detect scents but also to investigate objects and surfaces through touch. Rooting, pushing, turning and digging with the snout, is consequently one of their most characteristic natural behaviours.
This sensory world begins developing remarkably early. Piglets are able to recognise their mother's odour and use smell alongside sound when navigating the crowded environment of a litter. As they mature, exploratory sniffing and rooting become important parts of learning about unfamiliar surroundings.
Pigs are also highly intelligent mammals. Experimental studies have demonstrated strong spatial learning, memory and problem-solving abilities, while their natural curiosity encourages persistent investigation of novel objects and environments.
For a pig, therefore, encountering something unfamiliar is rarely a passive experience. A new scent, texture or object presents information to be sniffed, touched, nudged and thoroughly investigated, usually with the snout leading the way.

We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
