PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Blanket Burrow gathers four tiny kittens amongst the folds of a generously crocheted blanket, turning an ordinary corner of the sofa into a wonderfully soft hiding place. Two kittens peer sleepily from the upper folds, their small paws resting against loops of cream, dusty pink, sage and lavender yarn. Beneath them, two littermates have disappeared deeper into the blanket, curled side by side with their eyes closed.
Each youngster brings a different pattern of soft juvenile fur to the scene, from warm brown tabby markings and silvery grey to delicate white and ginger. Around them, the thick handmade crochet rises and falls in loose folds, creating little pockets, tunnels and sheltered spaces amongst its textured stitches. Soft natural light falls across the group, picking out tiny whiskers, pink noses and relaxed paws. Half hidden and half discovered, the kittens appear to have transformed the most comfortable blanket in the room into a miniature world entirely their own.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Domestic Cat (Felis catus) undergoes an extraordinary transformation during its first weeks of life. Kittens are born with their eyes closed and ear canals not yet fully open, leaving them initially dependent upon touch, scent and warmth to navigate the tiny world surrounding their mother and littermates. Unable to regulate their body temperature effectively when very young, newborn kittens instinctively huddle together, sharing warmth while nursing and sleeping for much of the day.
Their senses soon begin to awaken. Eyes generally start opening during the second week, while hearing develops as the ears unfold and the canals open. Over the following weeks, uncertain crawling gives way to walking, climbing, chasing and increasingly energetic play.
That play has an important developmental purpose. Wrestling with littermates, stalking moving objects and practising tiny pounces help kittens develop coordination, balance and the predatory movements characteristic of adult cats. Within only a few months, an almost helpless newborn has become an agile, inquisitive young animal equipped with remarkably sophisticated feline instincts.
