PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Peek-a-Boo captures a tiny tabby kitten peering from a hidden hollow amongst tightly packed golden hay. Only its head and two small front paws have emerged from the darkness, creating the impression that the youngster has discovered a secret little window from which to investigate the world beyond.
Its wide, reflective eyes look directly outward beneath tall, alert ears, while fine whiskers spread across a softly marked face of warm brown, cream and charcoal. Around the kitten, individual pieces of straw overlap in every direction, forming an irregular natural frame that contrasts with the softness of its juvenile fur. Small paws rest tentatively against the edge of the opening as though deciding whether to remain safely concealed or venture farther outside.
Warm earthy tones and deep shadow give the simple scene an intimate quality, transforming an ordinary pile of hay into the perfect hiding place for one very small and exceptionally curious visitor.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Domestic Cat (Felis catus), a newborn experiences the world very differently from the bright-eyed kitten it will soon become. Kittens are born with their eyes closed and ear canals not yet fully open, leaving them initially dependent upon touch, smell and their mother for warmth, food and security.
Their senses develop rapidly. The eyes usually begin opening during the second week of life, although vision continues developing afterwards. Hearing also improves as the ears and auditory system mature. As these new sources of information become available, the kitten's world expands dramatically and exploration becomes an increasingly important part of everyday life.
By several weeks of age, kittens begin moving confidently beyond their nesting area, investigating unfamiliar spaces, objects, sounds and scents. Hiding and peering from sheltered places can provide a secure position from which to observe before approaching something new. Their disproportionately large-looking eyes and ears also contribute to the unmistakable appearance of kittenhood, while supporting the rapidly developing sensory abilities that will eventually help transform a dependent newborn into an agile, highly observant adult cat.
