PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Morning Stretch captures a young foal stretching across a dew-brightened pasture in the warmth of early morning. With its hindquarters raised and forelegs extended deeply into the grass, the foal lowers its chest and head towards the ground, its small body forming a graceful curve through the centre of the composition.
Its rich chestnut coat is illuminated along the back by the rising sun, revealing the soft, slightly tousled texture of juvenile hair. A narrow white marking extends along the face towards the muzzle, while the short mane stands unevenly along the neck and the developing tail lifts gently behind. Long, slender legs emphasise the youthful proportions of the foal.
Beyond the pasture, dark timber fencing stretches horizontally through a veil of golden mist. Trees form a softly silhouetted horizon as the low sun floods the landscape with amber light, catching the tips of the surrounding grass. The foal's spontaneous stretch brings movement to the otherwise tranquil scene, capturing an intimate moment of early life as a young horse awakens to the new day.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Domestic Horse (Equus caballus). Horse foals enter the world remarkably well prepared for movement. Unlike many mammalian young that remain helpless for an extended period after birth, horses are precocial: their newborns are comparatively mature, mobile and capable of responding quickly to their surroundings. This developmental strategy reflects the evolutionary history of horses as open-country prey animals, for whom the ability to move with the herd offered an important means of survival.
A healthy foal will normally begin attempting to rise soon after birth, progressing through an initially unsteady sequence of balancing, standing and walking. Within only a few hours, many can move confidently beside their mother, and their coordination improves rapidly over the following days. Their disproportionately long legs are already close to their eventual adult length, producing the distinctive slender, high-legged appearance of a newborn foal.
Rest and stretching are equally characteristic parts of these early days. Foals alternate energetic periods of nursing, exploration and sudden bursts of running with frequent episodes of sleep and relaxation. Stretching after rest helps extend the limbs and body before renewed activity.
This extraordinary early mobility allows a foal to remain close to its mare almost from the beginning, while gradually developing the strength, balance and coordination that will transform its tentative first movements into the effortless locomotion characteristic of the adult horse.

Our fine art and canvas prints are produced to order, allowing each piece to be carefully prepared and checked before leaving the studio. We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
