PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Lavender Dreams captures a tiny tabby-and-white kitten asleep within a weathered wicker basket suspended against an old stone wall. Curled tightly into the shallow hollow of the basket, the kitten rests with its forepaws folded beneath its chin, its small body almost entirely enclosed by the woven sides.
Fine brown and black markings trace the crown and cheeks, softening into white across the muzzle, chest and forelegs. Its eyes are peacefully closed, while a delicate pink nose and relaxed mouth give the sleeping face an expression of complete contentment. Fine whiskers spread across the basket's rim, catching the warm light.
The aged wicker provides a richly textured cradle around the kitten, its irregular fibres and faded brown tones contrasting with the softness of the young animal's coat. Behind it, the pale stone wall adds another layer of weathered texture without distracting from the intimate subject.
Sprigs of lavender rise around the basket, their muted violet flowers bringing gentle colour to the earthy composition. Warm sunlight falls across the stone, wicker and sleeping kitten, transforming an ordinary garden corner into a quiet sanctuary.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Domestic Cat (Felis catus). The relationship between humans and domestic cats appears to have begun not through deliberate breeding, but through mutual opportunity. As early farming communities in the Near East began storing harvested grain thousands of years ago, their settlements attracted mice and other small rodents. Wildcats were drawn to this newly concentrated prey, bringing them into increasingly regular contact with people.
The principal wild ancestor of today's domestic cat is the African wildcat, particularly populations associated with the Near East. Unlike many domesticated animals, early cats offered humans little in the way of meat, milk, transport or physical labour. Their value lay instead in something they were already exceptionally well adapted to do: hunt small animals.
Cats that tolerated human proximity could exploit the abundant prey surrounding settlements, while people benefited from predators capable of reducing rodents around stored food. Over generations, this comparatively loose association developed into one of humanity's most enduring relationships with another species.
That history remains visible in cats today. Despite thousands of years alongside people, domestic cats retain much of the anatomy, behaviour and predatory repertoire of their wild ancestors. The animal sleeping peacefully beside a human home is therefore both profoundly domestic and remarkably close to the small wild hunter from which it descended.

Our fine art and canvas prints are produced to order, allowing each piece to be carefully prepared and checked before leaving the studio. We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
