Hello, Little One captures the peaceful first moments of a newly hatched chick, curled within the broken shell from which it has just emerged. Its tiny body rests against the smooth inner curve of the egg, eyes closed and head gently lowered as though the enormous effort of hatching has finally caught up with it.
Soft yellow down covers the chick from crown to tail, glowing warmly beneath the golden light that falls across the nest. Around it, strands of dry straw overlap in an untidy cradle, while the fractured rim of the shell forms a delicate boundary around the sleeping youngster. Tiny fragments and fine cracks remain visible along the broken edge, preserving the sense that its arrival has only just taken place.
Quiet and intimate, the scene focuses on one of life's smallest beginnings: a fragile new chick resting after the remarkable journey from the enclosed world of its egg into the light beyond.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Domestic Chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus). For a chicken chick, hatching is its first great physical challenge. After developing inside the egg for approximately 21 days, the chick must free itself largely through its own efforts. Shortly before hatching, it draws its remaining yolk into its abdomen, providing an important reserve of nourishment for the first hours of life.
A temporary hard point on the tip of the beak, known as the egg tooth, helps the chick break through the shell. First it makes a small opening called the external pip. It then gradually turns within the egg, repeatedly pushing and chipping around the shell until a section can finally be forced apart. The process is strenuous and can take many hours, with periods of rest between bursts of activity.
A newly emerged chick may therefore appear exhausted. Its down is initially damp and flattened, but as the chick rests and dries it becomes the familiar soft, fluffy covering associated with young chickens. Within surprisingly little time, the tiny hatchling will be standing, walking and beginning to investigate the world around it.

We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
