PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Growing Into Horns settles into a quiet moment beneath the filtered light of a prehistoric woodland. An adult Triceratops rests heavily upon the forest floor, its enormous frill rising behind the smaller form curled closely beside it. The juvenile's eyes are closed, its compact body tucked into the leaf litter while the adult remains awake and watchful.
Their shared anatomy is immediately recognisable, yet the difference in scale and development creates the heart of the composition. The adult carries long brow horns, a powerful beaked muzzle and a broad, imposing frill, while the youngster's features appear smaller and less pronounced.
Thick, textured skin catches patches of warm light beneath the spreading foliage, revealing folds, scales and subtle variations across their bodies.
Around them, cycads, ferns and fallen leaves create a sheltered pocket of vegetation. Sunlight filters through the canopy in scattered shafts, transforming an animal often portrayed in confrontation into something quieter: two generations resting side by side.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Triceratops (Triceratops horridus) lived during the very end of the Late Cretaceous, approximately 68–66 million years ago, in what is now western North America. Fossils belonging to individuals of different sizes and developmental stages have given palaeontologists an unusual opportunity to investigate how one of the world's most recognisable dinosaurs changed as it matured.
Young Triceratops did not simply resemble miniature versions of fully grown adults. The skull underwent substantial changes during growth. Juveniles possessed relatively short brow horns and proportionally large eyes, while the frill and facial ornamentation continued developing as the animal increased in size. Studies of skulls representing different growth stages suggest that the orientation and shape of the horns also changed considerably on the journey toward adulthood.
Exactly how young Triceratops were raised remains much harder to determine. An adult and juvenile resting together, as imagined here, is therefore a plausible reconstruction rather than behaviour preserved directly in the fossil record. There is not yet enough evidence to say confidently whether Triceratops provided prolonged parental care or lived in permanent family groups.
What the fossils do preserve is growth itself. From comparatively small juveniles emerged adults capable of reaching several tonnes, carrying some of the most extraordinary skull architecture ever evolved by a land animal.
This gives us a very different Triceratops background, rather than repeating general information about its horns, defence, diet or confrontation with predators, this one is specifically about ontogeny, how the skull, horns and frill transformed as a Triceratops grew from juvenile to adult.
