PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Dreaming in Blossom captures a young red panda surrendered completely to sleep amongst a canopy of soft pink flowers. Draped across the broad fork of a flowering tree, its small body follows the curve of the branch, paws hanging loosely beneath it and eyes peacefully closed. Rich russet fur glows against the surrounding blossom, while dark legs and a softly marked face create striking contrast amongst the delicate spring colour.
Below the branch, the red panda's long, ringed tail falls freely towards the flowers beneath, becoming an elegant vertical accent within the otherwise cloud-like composition. Moss and lichen across the textured bark bring a quiet sense of age and natural detail to its resting place. Beyond, layers of blossom dissolve gently into pink and cream, surrounding the sleeping youngster with colour. The result is an intimate moment of stillness, as though an afternoon climb has ended wherever the perfect branch happened to appear.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Red Panda (Ailurus fulgens) begins life far less colourful than the russet-coated animal it will become. Cubs are born inside sheltered dens, often within tree hollows, and arrive with their eyes closed and bodies covered in soft greyish fur. For the first weeks they remain almost entirely dependent upon their mother, who regularly cleans the nest and may move her young between den sites by carrying them carefully in her mouth.
Their eyes begin opening after several weeks, but becoming an accomplished climber takes considerably longer. As young red pandas grow, they develop the balance and coordination needed for life amongst branches. Their long, bushy tails help with stability, while curved, semi-retractile claws provide grip on bark. Red pandas can also rotate their ankles considerably, an adaptation that allows them to descend tree trunks headfirst, an unusual ability among climbing mammals. By gradually exploring beyond the den and following their mother, young red pandas acquire the movements and feeding behaviours needed for an increasingly independent life in the forest canopy.

Red Panda (Ailurus fulgens)
Although the Red Panda belongs to the order Carnivora, its diet is overwhelmingly plant-based, with bamboo making up around 95% of what it eats. Unlike a true herbivore, however, it retains the relatively simple digestive system of its carnivorous ancestors and cannot extract energy from fibrous vegetation particularly efficiently. Red Pandas compensate by selecting the most nutritious bamboo leaves and tender shoots available and by organising much of their lives around a remarkably tight energy budget.
Rest is therefore an important part of their survival strategy rather than simply inactivity. Red Pandas spend substantial periods sleeping or resting, and their behaviour changes with temperature to minimise unnecessary energy expenditure. In cold conditions they curl tightly around themselves, using their thick coat and bushy tail to conserve warmth; when temperatures rise, they may stretch along shaded branches to release heat. Protecting forests with abundant, reliable bamboo is consequently about more than preserving a food plant, it helps sustain the delicate energetic balance upon which this unusual bamboo specialist depends.
