PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Curiosity of a King brings a juvenille Tyrannosaurus rex unusually close, capturing the theropod in a quiet moment of apparent investigation. Its broad head extends towards the fractured remains of a fallen tree, one large eye directed towards the splintered timber as though something within the decaying wood has attracted its attention.
Sunlight reveals an intricate surface of scales and irregular textures across the face and neck, while subtle variations of earthy brown, olive and muted rose soften the animal against the surrounding woodland. Small forelimbs are held close to the body, their two-fingered hands contrasting dramatically with the tremendous proportions of the skull above them.
The broken trunk dominates the foreground, its weathered fibres, moss and jagged edges providing a natural counterpoint to the textured skin of the dinosaur. Behind, scattered vegetation and distant trees dissolve gently beneath a clear blue sky.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Tyrannosaurus rex (Tyrannosaurus rex) lived during the closing chapter of the Late Cretaceous Period, approximately 68–66 million years ago, in western North America. Fossils have been recovered from formations including the famous Hell Creek Formation, which preserves river channels, floodplains, forests and wetlands belonging to one of the last terrestrial ecosystems inhabited by non-avian dinosaurs.
Among the largest known terrestrial predators, T. rex could reach roughly 12 metres in length and possessed an exceptionally massive skull supported by powerful neck musculature. Its thick, deeply rooted teeth were capable of withstanding tremendous forces, while fossilised bones bearing bite marks, including some showing signs of healing provide direct evidence of tyrannosaur feeding and attacks.
Yet its formidable jaws were only part of its sensory world. Studies of the skull and braincase indicate that T. rex possessed well-developed olfactory regions, suggesting a strong sense of smell. Its forward-facing eyes also provided substantial binocular overlap, useful for judging distance and depth.
Its famously tiny arms were not simply useless remnants. Each ended in two clawed fingers and was strongly muscled for its size, although precisely how the limbs were used remains uncertain.
Tyrannosaurus rex lived extraordinarily close to the end of the age of non-avian dinosaurs. At approximately 66 million years ago, the Chicxulub asteroid impact and the profound environmental disruption associated with the end-Cretaceous mass extinction brought its lineage to an end.
For all its cultural reputation as a monster, T. rex was ultimately an animal: one that navigated, investigated and interpreted its surroundings through a sophisticated combination of sight, smell, hearing and touch.

Our fine art and canvas prints are produced to order, allowing each piece to be carefully prepared and checked before leaving the studio. We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
