PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Buttercup Bairn places a young Highland calf amid a meadow scattered with golden buttercups, its russet coat illuminated by the warmth of the setting sun. Standing squarely among the tall grasses, the calf looks directly towards the viewer, framed by flowers that rise around its sturdy young legs.
Its characteristic Highland coat is already wonderfully abundant. Long, softly tousled hair falls across the forehead in a developing fringe, while shorter curls and shaggy strands cover the body, catching fine lines of amber light along the ears, shoulders and back. The calf's broad muzzle and dark, quietly attentive eyes emerge from beneath the surrounding hair, giving the portrait an engaging but entirely natural sense of curiosity.
Beyond the meadow, the landscape softens into distant trees and rolling hills beneath a glowing evening sky. Buttercups stretch towards the horizon, turning the pasture into a field of yellow and green. Bathed in low golden light, the little calf appears perfectly at home within it: warm, woolly and wonderfully small against the open countryside.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Highland Cattle (Bos taurus) is one of the world's most recognisable cattle breeds, shaped over generations by the demanding climate of the Scottish Highlands and islands. Its famous shaggy appearance is functional as well as beautiful. Highland cattle develop a distinctive double coat consisting of a soft insulating undercoat protected by longer, coarser outer hair that helps shed rain and snow.
Calves are born already well covered, an important advantage in environments where cool temperatures, wind and wet weather can present challenges soon after birth. As they grow, their coats become increasingly characteristic of the breed, including the long facial hair that eventually forms the familiar Highland fringe. Coat colour is remarkably varied and may include red, yellow, black, brindle, dun, silver and white.
Their adaptation extends beyond their hair. Highland cattle are hardy grazers capable of making use of relatively rough vegetation and exposed pasture. For a small calf standing among summer flowers, the abundant coat may appear almost excessively fluffy, but it represents the beginning of an adaptation that has helped Highland cattle thrive in some of Scotland's most weather-beaten landscapes.

As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
