PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Among the Fallen Flowers captures two young capuchin monkeys sitting together on a tropical forest floor scattered with freshly fallen frangipani blossoms. Side by side, the youngsters carefully examine the flowers held between their small hands, seemingly absorbed by the delicate objects they have discovered amongst the leaf litter.
Around them, dozens of creamy white blossoms with golden centres and softly blushed edges create an unexpected carpet of colour across the damp earth. One flower has come to rest upon the head of the smaller monkey, adding a playful detail to the otherwise quiet moment. Their pale faces, fine juvenile coats and extraordinarily dexterous little fingers are illuminated by warm sunlight filtering through the surrounding foliage.
Beyond the pair, the fallen flowers gradually dissolve into a softly blurred tropical garden. Surrounded by blossoms and completely occupied with their discoveries, the two youngsters turn a simple patch of forest floor into a shared moment of curiosity and companionship.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Capuchin Monkey (Cebus sp.) grows up within complex social groups, making other monkeys an important part of their education. After spending their earliest months closely dependent upon their mothers, youngsters gradually become increasingly adventurous and begin interacting more frequently with juveniles of similar ages.
Play is particularly important during this period. Young capuchins chase, wrestle, climb and investigate their surroundings together, developing physical coordination while also learning the subtleties of social interaction. Through repeated encounters they practise behaviours such as approaching, retreating, sharing space and responding appropriately when another monkey changes the course of play.
Capuchins are also attentive observers. Youngsters watch the activities of other group members, often showing particular interest in what another monkey is handling or eating. This social attention can help direct their own exploration and learning without requiring every behaviour to be formally taught. Childhood is therefore a long period of experimentation for a capuchin, one in which companions provide opportunities not only for play, but for discovering how to behave within the remarkably intricate society they will inhabit as adults.

Young capuchins experience an unusually extended period of development in which exploration and social interaction gradually replace their earliest dependence on their mother. Studies of infant capuchins show that independent movement and manipulation of objects emerge progressively during the first months of life, while youngsters continue interacting closely with other members of their group. This prolonged childhood provides time to develop the coordination, judgement and dexterity required to negotiate a complex forest environment.
Just as importantly, capuchins learn by watching one another. Youngsters pay particular attention to companions handling unusual or difficult foods and can acquire locally successful foraging techniques through these social opportunities. Protecting capuchins therefore means conserving more than sufficient numbers of individual animals: healthy, functioning social groups allow knowledge and behaviour to pass between generations. The relationships formed during infancy can even influence patterns of social association later in life.
