PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Among Ancient Stones presents a young tiger cub seated quietly upon a series of broad, weathered stone steps deep within a lush tropical forest. Small against the ascending architecture, the cub sits upright with its forepaws placed neatly together, gazing beyond the frame with an attentive but peaceful expression.
Warm orange fur is crossed by sharply defined black stripes that curve individually around the forehead, cheeks, shoulders and compact body. Creamy markings soften the muzzle, throat and chest, while fine whiskers extend from the face and alternating bands continue along the tail. Gentle light filtering through the canopy catches the edges of the cub's coat and illuminates its amber-grey eyes.
Around it, the old stonework has been softened by time and moisture. Thick green moss follows the surfaces and crevices of the steps, with small plants emerging between the blocks and dense foliage filling the shadowed background. The contrast between richly patterned fur, ancient stone and saturated forest green gives the quiet portrait a sense of discovery and timelessness.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Tiger (Panthera tigris) is born with the striped coat that will become one of the most recognisable patterns in the animal kingdom. Although a newborn cub's markings are already visible, its proportions and coat change considerably as it grows, gradually producing the powerful pattern carried into adulthood.
No two tigers have exactly the same arrangement of stripes. Like human fingerprints, the pattern differs between individuals, appearing not only in the fur but also as pigmentation in the underlying skin. The markings vary in width, length, spacing and branching, creating an individual pattern that researchers can use to recognise wild tigers in photographs and camera-trap surveys.
For a young cub, these markings are more than identification. Dark vertical stripes disrupt the outline of the body among vegetation, broken light and shadow, helping the animal blend into its surroundings. Cubs remain dependent upon their mother for many months while gradually learning the skills required for independent life. The tiny stripes carried from birth will therefore remain with the cub throughout its transformation into one of the world's largest cats.

Tiger (Panthera tigris)
Tigers are often described as an umbrella species because conserving the large, functioning landscapes they require can protect far more than tigers alone. A viable tiger population needs extensive habitat containing sufficient prey, secure breeding areas, water and routes through which animals can move. Those same forests, grasslands, wetlands and river systems support extraordinary communities of plants and animals. IUCN notes that healthy tiger landscapes also store carbon, support climate resilience and provide freshwater and other resources important to people.
Yet today's tiger landscapes represent only a fraction of the species' former world. Research has found that effective potential tiger habitat has contracted dramatically from its indigenous extent, while remaining Tiger Conservation Landscapes continue to face fragmentation and other pressures. Modern conservation therefore increasingly works at the landscape scale, strengthening protected areas, restoring degraded habitat, safeguarding prey, maintaining corridors and involving the communities who share these environments. Protecting a tiger can consequently become a means of protecting an entire living landscape for generations to come.
