PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Waiting for Mum gathers a small group of Romney lambs into a close cluster among long pasture grasses and scattered buttercups. Resting shoulder to shoulder, the youngsters form a soft arrangement of overlapping cream fleeces, with each head turned in a slightly different direction. Some look attentively towards the distance, while others settle against their companions, creating a scene shaped by patience, familiarity, and quiet observation rather than movement.
Soft overcast light falls evenly across the group, revealing the fine curls of their developing wool and the muted grey-brown markings around several ears and eyes. Tall grass rises around their bodies, partially enclosing the lambs within a sheltered patch of pasture. Beyond them, mature sheep graze across a softly blurred field bordered by timber fencing and low green hills. The shallow depth of field keeps attention upon the closely gathered youngsters while preserving the reassuring presence of the wider flock. Gentle and restrained, the composition captures a natural pause in the day when companionship offers warmth, security, and calm.

The Romney sheep (Ovis aries)
Young lambs often gather into small nursery groups while their mothers graze nearby. These temporary groups allow the youngsters to rest, interact, and remain together within the security of the flock. When a ewe returns, she and her lamb recognise one another through a combination of voice, scent, appearance, and learned familiarity.
This recognition is essential in larger flocks, where many ewes and lambs may occupy the same paddock. Lambs quickly learn the distinctive call of their mother, while ewes use close inspection and scent to confirm identity. Mistaken approaches are usually rejected, reinforcing the individual bond between each pair.
Nursery groups also support early social development. Lambs become accustomed to companions of a similar age and begin learning how to respond to movement within the wider flock. These quiet periods of waiting are therefore not passive. They form part of a gradual transition from complete dependence upon the ewe towards increasing confidence, social awareness, and eventual independence on pasture.

As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
