The Split-Stream Dragon celebrates the amphibious grace, prehistoric elegance, and remarkable adaptability of the Australian Water Dragon. The Australian Water Dragon (Intellagama lesueurii)
The Australian Water Dragon is one of Australia's largest and most accomplished semi-aquatic lizards, inhabiting rivers, creeks, lagoons, rainforest streams, and urban waterways throughout eastern Australia. Its close association with water has shaped many of its remarkable adaptations, allowing it to thrive where permanent freshwater and sunny basking sites occur together.
An exceptional swimmer, the Water Dragon uses its long, laterally compressed tail to propel itself through the water with speed and precision. When disturbed, it often dives beneath the surface, remaining submerged for extended periods while concealed among rocks, submerged logs, or aquatic vegetation. Its varied diet of insects, spiders, crustaceans, fish, flowers, fruits, and other plant material has also enabled the species to flourish in both pristine forests and urban parks. This combination of aquatic agility, climbing ability, and adaptability has made the Australian Water Dragon one of the country's most familiar and successful native reptiles.

The Australian Water Dragon (Intellagama lesueurii) is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List and is not considered threatened within its Australian range. Its ability to utilise both natural waterways and many urban river systems has helped maintain healthy and widespread populations across eastern Australia.
Although generally secure, local populations can be affected by habitat fragmentation, water pollution, riparian vegetation loss, road mortality, and predation by introduced animals such as foxes and domestic cats. The long-term health of the species depends on maintaining clean waterways, intact riverbank vegetation, and connected freshwater habitats. Continued protection and restoration of Australia's rivers, creeks, and wetlands will help ensure this iconic reptile remains a familiar inhabitant of eastern Australia's aquatic landscapes.

As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
