PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Mountain Wool King centres on a mature Chaku llama standing confidently upon a high Andean slope. Positioned against a broad panorama of snow-covered peaks and shadowed valleys, the animal holds an upright, attentive posture that gives the composition a quiet sense of authority. Its dense fleece falls in heavy, irregular locks across the neck, shoulders, and body, creating a substantial silhouette against the distant mountains. Frost-touched grasses, low alpine shrubs, and scattered stone surround its feet, anchoring the portrait within the exposed high-country landscape.
Clear mountain light reveals an intricate range of warm cream, muted ochre, and weathered beige throughout the coat. Each lock catches the sun differently, producing alternating bands of softness and shadow that emphasise the extraordinary volume of the fleece. Behind the llama, cool blue-grey ridges recede through layers of atmospheric haze, while patches of snow brighten the highest summits. The contrast between the richly textured animal and the immense open landscape creates a dignified portrait of strength, stillness, and enduring life at altitude.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Chaku Llama (Lama glama)
The Chaku is one of the principal fibre-producing types of domestic llama developed within the Andean highlands. While the more athletic Ccara llama was traditionally favoured for carrying loads, the Chaku was selected for a fuller body covering and abundant fleece, providing pastoral households with a dependable source of warm, durable fibre.
Generations of Indigenous herders refined these qualities while preserving the hardiness needed for life across the high plateaus of Peru, Bolivia, Chile, and Argentina. Chaku llamas were required to withstand cold nights, intense sunlight, seasonal winds, and sparse grazing while continuing to produce useful fibre. Their dense coats therefore reflect both environmental adaptation and centuries of practical breeding.
The fibre was used in blankets, clothing, ropes, bags, and other woven goods essential to highland life. Animals with strong growth, sound structure, and desirable fleece characteristics were retained for breeding, allowing productive bloodlines to continue within family herds. The Chaku remains a living expression of Andean pastoral knowledge, linking livestock husbandry with textile traditions shaped over thousands of years.
