The Banksia Bandit celebrates the restless energy and remarkable agility of the New Holland Honeyeater, one of Australia's most charismatic nectar-feeding birds. Balanced delicately upon a crimson bottlebrush bloom, the honeyeater reaches deep into the flower with its slender curved bill, emerging dusted with golden pollen. Warm morning light filters through surrounding banksias, grevilleas, and eucalyptus foliage, illuminating drifting pollen, fine strands of spider silk, and the rich textures of Australia's flowering bush.
The bird's striking black-and-white plumage, bright white eye, and flashes of yellow stand in vivid contrast against the brilliant reds and warm greens of the native vegetation. New Holland Honeyeater (Phylidonyris novaehollandiae)
The New Holland Honeyeater is one of Australia's most widespread and energetic nectar-feeding birds, occurring throughout southern and eastern Australia in coastal heathlands, forests, woodlands, shrublands, and native gardens. Instantly recognised by its bold black-and-white striped plumage, vivid white eye, and flashes of yellow within the wings, it is rarely still for more than a few moments as it moves rapidly between flowering plants.
Its brush-tipped tongue is specially adapted for collecting nectar from banksias, bottlebrushes, grevilleas, paperbarks, and countless other native flowers. While feeding, pollen adheres to the bird's face and feathers before being carried to neighbouring blossoms, making the species an important pollinator across many Australian ecosystems. Highly territorial around productive flowering shrubs, New Holland Honeyeaters actively defend rich nectar sources while helping maintain the reproduction of the plants upon which they depend. Their constant activity, sharp calls, and remarkable speed have made them one of the most familiar birds of Australia's flowering landscapes.

The New Holland Honeyeater is currently classified as Least Concern and remains widespread and abundant throughout southern and eastern Australia. Its adaptability has enabled it to thrive in coastal heathlands, native forests, shrublands, and well-vegetated suburban gardens where flowering plants provide reliable food throughout the year.
Although populations are considered secure, the species depends on healthy native vegetation rich in nectar-producing shrubs and trees. Habitat clearing, fragmentation of coastal heathlands and woodlands, altered fire regimes, and the removal of flowering native plants can reduce feeding opportunities and breeding habitat. Changes in flowering patterns associated with climate change may also affect the seasonal availability of nectar. Conserving diverse native plant communities not only supports the New Holland Honeyeater but also the many ecosystems that rely on its pollination services, helping maintain the health and regeneration of Australia's distinctive flowering landscapes.

As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
