Sunlit Guard presents a commanding portrait of a mature Ccara llama standing upon a rocky overlook high in the Andes. Bathed in the warm light of early morning, the llama surveys an immense landscape of terraced valleys, distant mountain ridges, and snow-capped peaks rising beneath a brilliant sky. The Ccara Llama (Lama glama)
The Ccara is regarded as the traditional working llama of the Andes and represents one of South America’s oldest domesticated livestock types. Descended from the wild guanaco, llamas were domesticated several thousand years ago by pre-Columbian communities that recognised their exceptional suitability for high-altitude life.
Unlike llamas developed primarily for heavy fibre production, the Ccara was selected for strength, endurance, sound structure, and dependable movement across rugged terrain. Its comparatively athletic build, longer legs, and practical coat allowed it to travel efficiently while carrying loads through steep valleys and exposed mountain passes.
These qualities made the Ccara indispensable throughout parts of present-day Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, and Ecuador. In addition to transport, llamas supplied fibre, hides, manure for cultivation, and occasionally meat, allowing remote settlements to make productive use of difficult environments. The breed’s development reflects thousands of years of careful husbandry shaped by altitude, climate, and the practical needs of Andean communities.

Our fine art and canvas prints are produced to order, allowing each piece to be carefully prepared and checked before leaving the studio. We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
