PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Rainbow in the Gums celebrates a quiet moment within the daily rhythm of the Australian bush as a Rainbow Lorikeet pauses among clusters of flowering eucalyptus blossoms. Fine grains of golden pollen cling to its curved beak while countless tiny particles drift through shafts of warm morning light. Behind the bird, companions move softly through the canopy, their colours dissolving into a gentle blur of greens and gold.
The brilliant plumage of the foreground lorikeet, deep sapphire blue, vivid emerald green, glowing orange, and rich yellow, stands in striking contrast to the creamy blossoms and weathered gum leaves surrounding it. Every detail reflects the close relationship between these remarkable parrots and the flowering trees that sustain them. BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus)
Unlike most parrots, Rainbow Lorikeets are highly specialised nectar-feeders. Their most remarkable adaptation is a brush-tipped tongue covered with tiny hair-like papillae that functions much like a miniature paintbrush, allowing them to gather nectar and pollen from deep within blossoms with remarkable efficiency.
As lorikeets move between flowering eucalyptus, banksias, bottlebrushes, paperbarks, and other native plants, pollen adheres to their feathers and beaks before being carried to the next flower. In this way, they become important pollinators, helping many Australian plants reproduce successfully. Although their vivid plumage appears conspicuous to human eyes, the dominant greens blend surprisingly well within the canopy, while shifting sunlight breaks up the brighter colours among leaves and blossoms. This close relationship between bird and flowering forest has made the Rainbow Lorikeet one of Australia's most successful and ecologically important parrots.

The Rainbow Lorikeet is currently classified as Least Concern and remains abundant throughout eastern and northern Australia. Its adaptability has enabled it to thrive in coastal forests, woodlands, parks, gardens, and many urban environments where flowering native and ornamental trees provide reliable food throughout the year.
Although populations remain secure, Rainbow Lorikeets still depend on mature hollow-bearing trees for nesting. Urban development, land clearing, and the removal of old-growth trees can reduce breeding opportunities, while diseases such as Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD) and Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome may affect local populations. As specialist nectar-feeders and important pollinators of many native plants, protecting flowering habitats and preserving mature trees helps ensure these vibrant parrots continue to support the health and regeneration of Australia's forests and woodlands.

We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
