PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Morning in the Gumnuts captures the gentle awakening of a Western Australian woodland as a small gathering of Australian Ringnecks moves through flowering eucalyptus branches bathed in the warm light of dawn. Perched among twisting limbs laden with blossoms, gum nuts, and peeling bark, the birds pause between feeding and quiet interaction, their emerald, turquoise, and golden plumage glowing beneath shafts of early sunlight. One curious bird meets the viewer's gaze while its companions search among the flowers for nectar, seeds, and insects, filling the scene with a quiet sense of movement and purpose.
Tiny grains of pollen drift through the still morning air, catching the light like floating gold, while the soft woodland beyond fades into a tranquil haze of warm greens and amber tones. Rich textures of weathered bark, fresh eucalyptus foliage, and flowering gum clusters create a landscape alive with subtle detail. The artwork celebrates the everyday rhythms of Australia's native bush, revealing the beauty and vitality found within a single peaceful morning among the gum trees.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
Australian Ringneck (Barnardius zonarius)
The Australian Ringneck is a distinctive parrot found across much of Australia, with several regional subspecies occupying remarkably different environments. The birds depicted in this artwork are the south-western subspecies commonly known as the Twenty-Eight, named after its unmistakable call, which many listeners hear as the words "twenty-eight."
Restricted largely to the Jarrah, Marri, and Karri forests of south-west Western Australia, Twenty-Eights feed on seeds, fruits, blossoms, nectar, insects, and the developing nuts of native eucalypts. Their strong, curved beaks enable them to exploit a wide variety of food sources throughout the seasons. Unlike many of Australia's larger parrots that gather in noisy flocks, Australian Ringnecks are more often encountered in pairs, family groups, or small loose gatherings. As they move through the forest they assist with seed dispersal and interact closely with flowering trees, making them an important part of the ecology of these unique south-western woodlands.

CONSERVATION INFORMATION.

This design donates to animal and conservation efforts
The Australian Ringneck remains widespread and secure across its extensive range, occupying habitats from coastal woodland and mallee scrub to inland forests and semi-arid landscapes. Although populations are generally stable, local conservation challenges vary between regions and subspecies.
Like many native parrots, Australian Ringnecks depend on mature hollow-bearing trees for nesting, making the retention of old-growth woodland important for long-term breeding success. Habitat clearing, particularly in agricultural districts, can reduce available nesting sites, while some populations have adapted successfully to modified landscapes and occasionally come into conflict with orchardists and grain growers. Conserving native woodland and protecting mature trees will help ensure these colourful parrots continue to thrive throughout Australia's diverse landscapes.
