PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Mohair Meadow follows a small herd of Angora goats moving quietly through a sunlit pasture rich with grasses and flowering plants. A mature goat occupies the foreground, its broad, sweeping horns and long white fleece creating a commanding visual anchor. Behind it, several companions graze at varying distances, their pale forms emerging between tall stems of grass, purple lupines, and sprays of golden wildflowers. Their loose arrangement gives the scene a natural rhythm, suggesting an unhurried passage across the meadow rather than a formally posed group.
Late-afternoon light filters through the pasture, illuminating the goats’ flowing coats in shades of warm ivory, soft cream, and pale gold. Individual ringlets catch the sunlight while deeper folds remain in gentle shadow, emphasising the length and texture of the mohair. A line of weathered fence posts recedes towards rolling green hills, carrying the eye into the open countryside beyond. The abundant vegetation, glowing fleece, and expansive rural setting come together in a richly textured portrait of animals settled peacefully within the landscape.

The Angora goat (Capra hircus)
The quality of an Angora goat’s mohair begins with the land upon which it grazes. Because its fleece grows continuously, the breed requires dependable nutrition throughout the year. Healthy pasture supports not only body condition and reproduction, but also the strength, length, and consistency of each fibre. Periods of inadequate feed may leave weaknesses in the growing fleece, reducing its value when it is eventually harvested.
Grazing systems must therefore be planned around seasonal changes in rainfall, plant growth, and the nutritional demands of the flock. Rotating animals between paddocks can protect vegetation from excessive browsing while allowing pasture to recover. Shelter is equally important, particularly after shearing, when goats temporarily lose the insulation provided by their long coats and become more vulnerable to cold, wind, and rain.
This close relationship between soil, vegetation, climate, and fleece has shaped specialist Angora farming across several continents. Successful mohair production remains an exercise in careful land stewardship, demonstrating how the condition of a natural fibre can reflect the health of the landscape that produced it.
