Regent Honeyeater (Anthochaera phrygia)
The Regent Honeyeater is one of Australia's most distinctive woodland birds and a flagship species for the conservation of the country's box-ironbark forests. Once widespread across south-eastern Australia, it travelled in large nomadic flocks, following the seasonal flowering of eucalypts and mistletoe through woodlands rich in nectar. Today, the species survives only in scattered populations, making each sighting an increasingly rare privilege.
Instantly recognised by its striking black-and-gold plumage and pale eye, the Regent Honeyeater is highly specialised for a nectar-based diet. Its brush-tipped tongue allows it to harvest nectar efficiently while transferring pollen between blossoms, making the bird an important pollinator within native ecosystems. During years of abundant flowering, individuals may travel hundreds of kilometres in search of food and suitable breeding habitat, reflecting a life closely tied to the natural rhythms of Australia's woodlands. The species has become a powerful symbol of both the beauty and vulnerability of these remarkable landscapes.

The Regent Honeyeater is classified as Critically Endangered under Australia's Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act and is also listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List. Fewer than 400 mature birds are believed to remain in the wild, making it one of Australia's most threatened bird species.
The primary cause of its decline has been the widespread clearing and fragmentation of box-ironbark woodlands and river red gum forests, reducing the availability of mature flowering trees and nesting habitat. As nectar resources become increasingly scattered, birds must travel greater distances between feeding areas, reducing breeding success and increasing population isolation. Extensive conservation programs are now focused on habitat restoration, protection of key breeding sites, captive breeding, and carefully managed releases into the wild. The Regent Honeyeater has become an enduring symbol of Australian woodland conservation, demonstrating both the fragility of native ecosystems and the importance of protecting the habitats upon which countless species depend.

As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
