PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Fruits of the Forest celebrates one of the most remarkable yet seldom-seen aspects of cassowary life: devoted fatherhood. Upon the damp rainforest floor, three striped chicks forage among fallen leaves, moss, and brightly coloured rainforest fruits while their father stands watch nearby. Fern fronds arch gently overhead as warm shafts of sunlight filter through the dense canopy, illuminating the forest's rich textures and the quiet activity unfolding beneath.
The vivid crimson berries scattered across the foreground provide striking accents against the deep greens and earthy browns of the rainforest floor. Each chick explores its surroundings with youthful curiosity while remaining close to the reassuring presence of the adult bird. Southern Cassowary (Casuarius casuarius)
The Southern Cassowary is unusual among large birds because almost all parental care is undertaken by the male. After laying her eggs, the female leaves to breed again, while the male remains to incubate the clutch for around fifty days. Once the chicks hatch, he continues as their sole protector and guide for up to nine months, rarely allowing them to stray far from his watchful presence.
During this extended period, the young birds gradually learn the knowledge needed to survive within the rainforest. They discover which fruits are safe to eat, where reliable water can be found, and how to navigate the complex forest floor while avoiding danger. As they feed, the chicks also begin contributing to one of the rainforest's most important ecological processes by dispersing seeds throughout the landscape.
Through this remarkable relationship between parent and offspring, each new generation helps maintain the intricate web of life that has shaped Australia's tropical rainforests for countless generations.

Young cassowaries face very different challenges from fully grown adults. Although protected by their father throughout their early development, chicks remain vulnerable to domestic dogs, feral pigs, habitat disturbance, and the increasing fragmentation of rainforest. Family groups often move slowly while foraging, making them particularly susceptible when crossing roads or travelling between isolated patches of forest.
Modern conservation programs increasingly recognise that protecting breeding habitat is just as important as safeguarding adult birds. Seasonal road signage, responsible pet ownership, predator management, and the preservation of fruit-bearing rainforest trees all improve the chances that young cassowaries will successfully reach maturity.
Public education also plays an important role by encouraging residents and visitors to observe cassowaries from a respectful distance and avoid feeding wildlife. Together, these measures help ensure future generations of this extraordinary rainforest gardener continue to shape and sustain one of Australia's oldest living ecosystems.

We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
