Follow Me captures one of the Australian bush's most endearing family scenes as a devoted father leads his young across the open country. Warm afternoon light fills the landscape, illuminating drifting red dust, scattered shrubs, and tufts of native grass as seven striped chicks follow closely behind their father in a loose procession across the outback.
The repeating pattern of the chicks creates a gentle sense of rhythm and movement, while the larger bird remains a calm and reassuring presence at the centre of the composition. Fine dust catches the sunlight around their feet, reinforcing the warmth and openness of the landscape. BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
Emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae)
After hatching, young emus remain under the care of their father for up to seven months. During this time he leads them across the landscape, introducing them to reliable food sources, water, and shelter while protecting them from danger. The chicks remain close together, responding quickly to his movements and warning calls as they gradually gain confidence.
Their distinctive cream-and-brown striped plumage provides excellent camouflage amongst grasses and low vegetation during these vulnerable early months. As they mature, the stripes gradually disappear, replaced by the shaggy brown plumage of adulthood. This extended period of learning allows young emus to develop the skills needed to survive independently within Australia's diverse and often unpredictable environments.

Community awareness also plays an important role, encouraging motorists to remain alert for family groups crossing rural roads and promoting responsible pet ownership near known emu habitat.
By improving the survival of young birds, these efforts help maintain healthy breeding populations and ensure the emu continues to occupy its enduring place within Australia's natural heritage.

We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
