Wings of Golden Light captures the effortless elegance of a Whistling Kite as it glides upon rising thermals above an expansive Australian wetland bathed in the final light of day. Suspended high above a network of winding waterways, floodplain marshes, and scattered woodland, the bird appears almost weightless against the glowing horizon. Whistling Kite (Haliastur sphenurus)
The Whistling Kite is one of Australia's most widespread birds of prey, occurring across almost every mainland habitat where open country meets water. Easily recognised by its long, gently rounded wings and distinctive descending whistle, it is often seen circling high above rivers, floodplains, wetlands, estuaries, and coastal plains, using rising columns of warm air to remain aloft for extended periods with scarcely a wingbeat.
Rather than relying solely on active hunting, the species is a highly adaptable opportunist. Fish, reptiles, small mammals, insects, carrion, and even food exposed by fire or flood all form part of its varied diet. This flexibility allows the Whistling Kite to respond quickly to Australia's constantly changing landscapes, where rainfall, seasonal flooding, and drought continually reshape the distribution of food resources. As both hunter and scavenger, it performs an important ecological role by helping regulate prey populations and removing carrion from the environment, contributing to the health and balance of wetland and woodland ecosystems.

Our fine art and canvas prints are produced to order, allowing each piece to be carefully prepared and checked before leaving the studio. We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
