PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Twilight Strider celebrates the rugged beauty, distinctive proportions, and quiet confidence of the Thick-tailed Gecko. Perched upon a warm sandstone outcrop as daylight fades, the gecko emerges into the cool evening, perfectly timed with the awakening of Australia's nocturnal wilderness. The last glow of sunset washes across the weathered rock, illuminating its finely patterned scales against the deepening colours of the outback.
Its unmistakable thick, carrot-shaped tail rests behind a compact body adorned with rich chocolate bands, warm ochres, and raised golden tubercles that blend naturally with the surrounding stone. Large, watchful eyes reflect the fading light as the gecko pauses before beginning its nightly search for prey. Framed by rugged rock, hardy grasses, and the vast twilight landscape, the scene captures the quiet transition between day and night, celebrating one of Australia's most charismatic small reptiles and the timeless beauty of the country's rocky interior.

The Thick-tailed Gecko (Underwoodisaurus milii)
The Thick-tailed Gecko, often known as the Barking Gecko, is a distinctive nocturnal reptile found across southern and western Australia. It inhabits rocky outcrops, shrublands, open woodlands, heathlands, and arid environments, where it shelters beneath rocks, fallen timber, and natural crevices during the day before emerging after sunset to hunt insects, spiders, and other small invertebrates.
Unlike many Australian geckos that spend much of their time climbing vegetation, this species is primarily ground dwelling. Its swollen tail stores fat reserves, enabling it to survive periods of drought and fluctuating food availability. When threatened, it performs an unusual defensive display, arching its body and producing sharp barking or squeaking calls that can startle potential predators. Combined with its heavily textured scales and excellent camouflage among stones and leaf litter, these adaptations have made the Thick-tailed Gecko one of Australia's most recognisable and resilient nocturnal reptiles.

The Thick-tailed Gecko (Underwoodisaurus milii) is currently classified as Least Concern and remains widespread throughout much of southern and western Australia. Its adaptability has allowed it to persist across a variety of rocky and semi-arid habitats, where suitable shelter and abundant invertebrate prey remain available.
Although populations are generally stable, local declines may occur through habitat clearing, removal of fallen timber and natural rock refuges, altered fire regimes, and predation by introduced species such as feral cats and foxes. Conserving native vegetation, rocky shelter sites, and connected habitat remains important for maintaining healthy populations of this distinctive nocturnal gecko, ensuring it continues to thrive within Australia's diverse southern landscapes.

As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
