The Social Blossom captures the lively spirit of a Rainbow Lorikeet flock as morning sunlight streams through a flowering eucalyptus canopy. Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus)
Rainbow Lorikeets are among Australia's most social parrots, living within complex communities where communication and cooperation play an essential role. Most adults form long-term pair bonds, with partners commonly feeding together, preening one another, and remaining in close contact throughout the day. Mutual grooming strengthens these bonds while helping maintain healthy plumage.
Outside the breeding season, lorikeets gather in communal roosts that may contain hundreds or even thousands of birds. Within these bustling flocks they communicate through an extraordinary variety of whistles, chatter, squawks, and high-pitched calls that have become one of the defining sounds of Australia's eastern forests and suburbs. Competition for flowering trees often produces lively displays of aerial agility, vocal negotiation, and playful interaction. Their remarkable intelligence, adaptability, and social organisation have enabled Rainbow Lorikeets to flourish across a wide range of environments while remaining one of Australia's most familiar and entertaining native birds.

The Rainbow Lorikeet is currently classified as Least Concern and remains abundant throughout eastern and northern Australia. Its adaptability has enabled it to thrive in coastal forests, woodlands, parks, gardens, and many urban environments where flowering native and ornamental trees provide reliable food throughout the year.
Although populations remain secure, Rainbow Lorikeets still depend on mature hollow-bearing trees for nesting. Urban development, land clearing, and the removal of old-growth trees can reduce breeding opportunities, while diseases such as Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD) and Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome may affect local populations. As specialist nectar-feeders and important pollinators of many native plants, protecting flowering habitats and preserving mature trees helps ensure these vibrant parrots continue to support the health and regeneration of Australia's forests and woodlands.

Our fine art and canvas prints are produced to order, allowing each piece to be carefully prepared and checked before leaving the studio. We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
