PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Royal Pair celebrates the remarkable partnership of the Australian King Parrot as a bonded pair rests quietly beneath the canopy of an ancient rainforest gully. Perched together on a moss-covered branch, the brilliant scarlet plumage of the male glows in shafts of warm morning light, while the female's rich emerald-green feathers blend effortlessly with the surrounding foliage. Towering tree ferns, twisting vines, and softly illuminated moss create a tranquil setting that reflects the quiet character of these forest-dwelling parrots.
The striking contrast between the two birds immediately captures the eye, yet their relaxed posture and close companionship reveal the strong bond they share. Warm golden light filtering through the canopy enriches every colour without disturbing the peaceful atmosphere, transforming an intimate woodland encounter into a celebration of one of Australia's most elegant native parrots.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
Australian King Parrot (Alisterus scapularis)
The Australian King Parrot inhabits the rainforests, wet sclerophyll forests, and mountain woodlands that stretch along Australia's eastern coast, from tropical Queensland to the forests of Victoria. Unlike many parrots that gather in large, noisy flocks, King Parrots are more often encountered in pairs or small family groups, moving quietly through the middle and upper canopy in search of fruits, seeds, berries, blossoms, and native rainforest vegetation.
Among Australia's parrots, few species display such dramatic sexual dimorphism. Adult males are unmistakable with their brilliant scarlet head, breast, and underparts contrasted against emerald-green wings, while females are almost entirely green with only subtle patches of red beneath the body. The difference is so striking that early European naturalists initially believed the sexes belonged to separate species. Like many forest parrots, Australian King Parrots rely on large natural hollows in mature trees for nesting, making healthy old-growth forests essential to their long-term survival while also supporting their important role as seed dispersers throughout eastern Australian forests.

CONSERVATION INFORMATION.

This design donates to animal and conservation efforts
The Australian King Parrot is currently classified as Least Concern, with populations remaining stable across much of eastern Australia. The species has adapted well to many forest reserves, national parks, and even well-vegetated suburban areas where mature trees and reliable food sources remain available.
Conservation concerns are greatest for the northern subspecies, (Alisterus scapularis minor), which is restricted to the Wet Tropics of Queensland and is recognised as Endangered due to its limited distribution and increasing vulnerability to habitat loss and climate-related change. Across their range, Australian King Parrots depend on mature forests containing large hollow-bearing trees for breeding, making the loss of old-growth habitat one of their most significant long-term threats. Protecting rainforest and woodland ecosystems, preserving nesting hollows, and maintaining connected forest corridors will help ensure these magnificent parrots continue to flourish throughout Australia's eastern forests for generations to come.
