PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Reef's Fan is a dramatic celebration of one of the coral reef's most elegant and unmistakable predators. Suspended effortlessly against the intricate architecture of a flourishing coral wall, a magnificent Lionfish drifts through the water with an almost theatrical presence. Sunlight filters through the crystal-clear tropical sea, illuminating its bold chestnut and ivory stripes while revealing an extraordinary display of elongated venomous spines and delicate fan-like fins. Every graceful movement creates the illusion of a living underwater tapestry, transforming the fish into one of the reef's most visually captivating inhabitants.
Set against the darker textures of coral outcrops, sea fans, and sponge-covered reef ledges, the Lionfish commands attention through elegance rather than speed. Its ornate fins radiate outward in perfect symmetry as small reef fish move cautiously through the surrounding habitat, reinforcing the quiet authority of this remarkable hunter. Rich contrasts of light and shadow, combined with the intricate detail of the reef itself, create a composition that celebrates both beauty and adaptation. This artwork honours the extraordinary diversity of coral reef life, capturing a species whose striking appearance has made it one of the most recognisable fish in tropical oceans.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Lionfish (Pterois volitans)
The Lionfish is one of the most distinctive reef fish in the tropical Indo-Pacific, instantly recognised by its dramatic striped body, flowing fins, and impressive array of venomous dorsal spines. Native to coral reefs, lagoons, rocky outcrops, and sheltered coastal habitats, it is a slow-moving ambush predator that feeds primarily on small fish and crustaceans. Rather than relying on speed, Lionfish patiently stalk their prey before using their broad pectoral fins to corner victims and strike with remarkable precision.
Its bold colouration serves as both camouflage among the reef's intricate patterns and a highly effective warning to potential predators. Although admired throughout its native range for its beauty and ecological role, the species has also become one of the world's most successful marine invaders after establishing populations throughout the western Atlantic and Caribbean. This artwork celebrates the Lionfish within its natural Indo-Pacific home, where it forms part of the rich tapestry of reef biodiversity and reflects the remarkable evolutionary adaptations that have shaped life beneath the waves.

CONSERVATION INFORMATION.

This design donates to animal and conservation efforts
The Lionfish (Pterois volitans) is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, reflecting its extensive Indo-Pacific distribution and stable populations throughout its native range. Across Australia and much of the tropical Pacific, the species remains a natural component of healthy coral reef ecosystems, where it occupies the role of a mid-level predator and contributes to maintaining ecological balance among smaller reef fishes and crustaceans.
Although secure within its native habitat, Lionfish remain dependent on healthy coral reefs, which are increasingly affected by coral bleaching, declining water quality, pollution, and climate change. In contrast, populations introduced into the western Atlantic, Caribbean, and Gulf of Mexico have become highly invasive, reproducing rapidly in ecosystems where few natural predators exist. These invasions have prompted extensive removal programs to protect native reef communities. The contrasting fortunes of Lionfish around the world illustrate how the ecological role of a species depends entirely on the environment in which it naturally evolved, highlighting the importance of conserving healthy, balanced marine ecosystems.
