PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Reed Wanderer celebrates the quiet rhythm of Australia's freshwater wetlands as the first light of day reaches a peaceful billabong. Resting upon a moss-covered log at the water's edge, the Striped Marsh Frog pauses with calm alertness, its intricate pattern of earthy browns, olive tones, and pale stripes blending seamlessly with the surrounding reeds and weathered timber. A fine layer of moisture glistens across its skin, while its large golden eye reflects the warm glow of dawn. Tiny insects hover above the still water, signalling the beginning of another day within this thriving wetland community.
Golden morning light filters through distant eucalyptus trees, dissolving into soft mist that drifts gently across the billabong. BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Striped Marsh Frog (Limnodynastes peronii)
The Striped Marsh Frog, is one of the most familiar amphibians of eastern Australia, inhabiting wetlands, floodplains, swamps, farm dams, suburban ponds, and slow-moving waterways. While its striped and mottled pattern provides excellent camouflage among reeds and grasses, the species is often identified more readily by sound than by sight. During warm evenings following rain, males gather around breeding sites to produce one of Australia's most distinctive frog calls, commonly compared to the sound of a cork being pulled from a bottle or a loud, resonant "toc" echoing across the water.
These breeding choruses play an important role in freshwater ecosystems, signalling favourable conditions for reproduction after rainfall. Females lay eggs in floating foam nests that protect the developing embryos before they hatch into tadpoles, an adaptation shared with several Australian ground frogs. This reproductive strategy increases the survival of young in temporary or fluctuating wetlands, allowing the species to successfully exploit a wide range of aquatic habitats across its extensive distribution.

The Striped Marsh Frog remains widespread and abundant throughout much of mainland Australia and is currently classified as Least Concern. Its ability to occupy both natural wetlands and human-created water bodies has helped maintain healthy populations across much of its range. In Tasmania, however, the species is listed as Endangered, reflecting its much more restricted distribution and the greater vulnerability of local populations.
Despite its adaptability, the long-term health of the species depends on the protection of freshwater ecosystems. Wetland drainage, declining water quality, prolonged drought, altered water flows, invasive predators, habitat fragmentation, and the spread of amphibian diseases all have the potential to reduce breeding success and local abundance. Conserving marshes, farm dams, floodplain wetlands, and vegetated waterways benefits not only the Striped Marsh Frog but also the countless insects, fish, reptiles, birds, and other amphibians that rely on these interconnected freshwater habitats. As a common and familiar species, it also serves as an important indicator of the health and resilience of Australia's wetland environments.

As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
