PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Pride of Wales is a commanding portrait of one of Britain's most celebrated native horse breeds, standing proudly above the rolling valleys that have shaped its character for centuries. Poised upon a grassy ridge beneath the warm glow of the setting sun, the Welsh Cob surveys the surrounding countryside with quiet confidence and unwavering composure. Rich golden light sweeps across its deep bay coat, revealing powerful musculature beneath a compact yet elegant frame, while its abundant mane falls naturally along the neck, reinforcing the breed's distinctive presence. Beyond the horse, a timeless Welsh landscape unfolds in layers of patchwork fields, ancient dry-stone walls, and softly silhouetted mountains fading into the evening haze. The expansive vista reflects generations of rural life, where hardy native horses became trusted partners in agriculture, transport, and daily work. Yet the composition speaks not only of history but also of belonging. The cob appears perfectly at home within these hills, embodying the resilience, intelligence, and willing temperament for which the breed has long been admired. Rather than emphasising movement, this portrait celebrates quiet strength and enduring character, presenting the Welsh Cob as both guardian and symbol of its homeland. It is a tribute to the inseparable bond between horse, landscape, and Welsh heritage.
The artwork is enriched by a warm evening palette, where deep bay, mahogany, and burnished chestnut tones glow beneath soft golden sunlight. Emerald pastures, muted olive hills, weathered grey stone walls, and distant blue-violet mountains create depth and harmony, while the amber sky bathes the entire landscape in gentle warmth. Together, these colours evoke tranquillity, resilience, and the timeless beauty of the Welsh countryside.
ABOUT THIS COLLECTION
#aboutThisCollection
BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Welsh Cob (Equus ferus caballus) represents the culmination of centuries of careful breeding within Wales, where versatility was valued above specialization. Recognised today as Section D of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society, the breed combines substantial strength with refined movement, allowing it to excel in an unusually wide range of disciplines. Historically, Welsh Cobs served as riding horses, carriage horses, farm workers, postal mounts, and reliable family companions, adapting readily to whatever task was required.
Their expressive action, balanced conformation, and willing temperament have since earned international recognition in driving competitions, ridden performance classes, dressage, eventing, and recreational riding. Despite this modern success, the Welsh Cob has retained the intelligence, courage, and work ethic that defined its ancestors. The Pride of Wales honors the breed as a national emblem of Welsh horsemanship, celebrating not only its athletic beauty but also the generations of dedicated breeders who preserved a horse equally admired for elegance, versatility, and dependable character.
