PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The Meadow Soft-Step captures the quiet elegance of the French Angora Rabbit as it pauses among a carpet of clover, moss, and weathered woodland timber. Positioned low within the meadow, the rabbit's rounded form is enveloped in a flowing coat of cream, ivory, and pale fawn wool that softens every contour of its body. Fine strands catch the warm morning light, revealing subtle variations in colour and texture while contrasting beautifully with the rich greens of the surrounding grasses and moss. Upright ears, lightly furnished with silky tufts, frame an alert yet peaceful expression that draws the viewer immediately to its gentle gaze.

The composition balances softness with the natural textures of the landscape. Fallen branches, fresh meadow plants, and tiny dew-covered leaves create an intimate woodland setting without distracting from the rabbit itself. Delicate highlights shimmer across the wool, while the blurred background lends a quiet sense of depth and tranquillity. Every element works together to celebrate the remarkable texture of the French Angora's coat, creating a calm and inviting portrait that conveys stillness, warmth, and understated beauty.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY

The French Angora Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus)

Among the oldest recognised wool-producing rabbit breeds, the French Angora traces its heritage to Angora rabbits that became highly prized across Europe during the eighteenth century. Through careful development in France, breeders established a rabbit that produced abundant, fine fibre while maintaining a coat that was more practical to manage than that of some other Angora varieties. Its comparatively clean face and lightly furnished ears allow its distinctive features to remain visible beneath the surrounding wool, giving the breed its characteristic appearance.

The French Angora is valued for the quality of its soft, lightweight fibre, which is harvested several times each year and spun into luxurious yarn. Angora wool is renowned for its exceptional warmth, fine texture, and natural insulating properties, making it highly sought after by hand spinners, knitters, and textile artisans. Today, the breed continues to be appreciated by dedicated breeders, exhibitors, and fibre enthusiasts who preserve both its historic qualities and its long-standing contribution to traditional textile crafts.
