The Lagoon Glider reveals the quiet elegance of one of Australia's most adaptable freshwater reptiles through a captivating split-level perspective. Beneath the crystal-clear surface of a tranquil lagoon, an Eastern Long-necked Turtle glides effortlessly through sunlit water, its weathered shell illuminated by shifting ribbons of golden light. Above the waterline, paperbark and eucalyptus trees rise from the mist-softened shoreline, framing a peaceful wetland awakening to the morning.

The Eastern Long-necked Turtle (Chelodina longicollis)
The Eastern Long-necked Turtle is one of Australia's best-known freshwater turtles, recognised for its exceptionally long neck, which can reach almost two-thirds the length of its shell. Widespread throughout eastern Australia, it inhabits wetlands, billabongs, lagoons, creeks, rivers, and farm dams, where it spends much of its life swimming slowly through submerged vegetation in search of food.
Unlike most turtles, which withdraw their heads straight back into the shell, this species folds its neck sideways beneath the edge of the carapace. Its long neck allows rapid strikes at aquatic insects, tadpoles, crustaceans, small fish, and other prey while remaining largely concealed beneath the water. Strong webbed feet make it an accomplished swimmer, yet it is equally renowned for undertaking remarkable overland journeys between wetlands after seasonal rains. These movements enable the species to colonise new water bodies and thrive within Australia's ever-changing freshwater landscapes.

The Eastern Long-necked Turtle (Chelodina longicollis) is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN Red List and remains one of Australia's most widespread freshwater turtles. Its ability to inhabit wetlands, lagoons, rivers, farm dams, and temporary water bodies has contributed to its continued success across much of eastern Australia.
Despite its broad distribution, many local populations face increasing pressures from wetland drainage, urban expansion, declining water quality, and road mortality during seasonal overland migrations. Nest predation by introduced foxes and other feral animals also reduces breeding success in some regions. Protecting wetlands, maintaining movement corridors between waterways, and managing invasive predators remain important measures for ensuring this distinctive freshwater species continues to thrive as an enduring symbol of Australia's inland wetlands.

Our fine art and canvas prints are produced to order, allowing each piece to be carefully prepared and checked before leaving the studio. We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
