The Iberian Legend portrays a magnificent Spanish Fighting Bull standing in quiet solitude across the rolling dehesa of the Iberian Peninsula as the final light of sunset ignites the evening sky. The powerful animal dominates the composition with a broad, muscular frame and an unwavering stance, while its polished black coat absorbs the fading light, revealing subtle undertones of deep mahogany and burnt umber along the shoulders and flanks. Strong, forward-curving horns frame the bull's alert expression, creating a commanding silhouette against the glowing horizon. BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Spanish Fighting Bull (Bos taurus) often known as the Toro Bravo, is a historic Iberian cattle type associated with the open wooded pastures of Spain and Portugal. It has long been selected for strength, agility, alertness, and a powerful independent temperament, giving the breed its distinctive physical and behavioural character. These cattle are traditionally raised in extensive landscapes such as the dehesa, where grazing animals move among grassland, oak trees, and open scrub. Beyond their cultural history, their presence helps maintain these semi-natural pasture systems, supporting a landscape shaped by livestock, trees, and seasonal grazing. This artwork honours the Spanish Fighting Bull as a symbol of wild rural heritage. It does not rely on spectacle, but instead presents the animal in its landscape: powerful, watchful, and inseparable from the old pastoral traditions of the Iberian Peninsula.
