PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Electric Jewel is a vibrant celebration of colour, movement, and one of the coral reef's most instantly recognisable inhabitants. Suspended within the crystal-clear waters of a flourishing coral garden, a magnificent Blue Tang glides effortlessly through an underwater landscape rich with life and texture. Its brilliant sapphire-blue body, framed by bold ebony markings and a vivid golden-yellow tail, creates a striking contrast against the softer hues of branching corals, giant clams, sea fans, and swaying seagrasses. Gentle shafts of tropical sunlight filter through the surface above, illuminating every contour and transforming the reef into a luminous mosaic of colour.
The composition captures a moment of quiet elegance rather than hurried motion. Surrounded by thriving coral formations and a scattering of smaller reef fish, the Blue Tang moves with effortless precision through its natural habitat, embodying the vitality and harmony of a healthy reef ecosystem. Rich blues, turquoise waters, and warm coral tones combine to create an atmosphere of tranquillity while celebrating one of the Indo-Pacific's most iconic marine fish. This artwork honours the remarkable beauty that lies beneath the waves and the intricate web of life sustained by the world's coral reefs.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Blue Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus)
The Blue Tang is one of the most recognisable reef fish in the tropical Indo-Pacific, celebrated for its brilliant blue colouration, graceful swimming, and important ecological role. As the only species within its genus, it occupies coral reefs from East Africa to the Great Barrier Reef and across the Pacific Ocean. Despite its striking appearance, the Blue Tang is a hardworking herbivore, spending much of the day grazing algae from coral and rocky surfaces. This constant feeding helps prevent excessive algal growth, allowing corals to flourish and maintaining the delicate balance of reef ecosystems.
Juveniles often seek shelter among branching corals before moving into more open reef habitats as they mature. Equipped with a sharp, retractable spine on either side of the tail, a characteristic shared by surgeonfishes, the Blue Tang can defend itself against predators when threatened. Admired by divers, marine photographers, and naturalists around the world, the species has become an enduring ambassador for coral reef conservation and the extraordinary biodiversity of tropical seas.

CONSERVATION INFORMATION.

This design donates to animal and conservation efforts
The Blue Tang (Paracanthurus hepatus) is currently classified as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, reflecting its broad distribution and generally stable populations across the Indo-Pacific. Although not considered globally threatened, the species depends on healthy coral reef ecosystems that provide food, shelter, and breeding habitat throughout its life. As an important grazing herbivore, Blue Tangs help control algal growth, supporting coral recovery and contributing to the long-term resilience of reef communities.
Local populations can be affected by coral bleaching, declining water quality, coastal development, pollution, and habitat degradation associated with climate change. The species has also been collected for the marine aquarium trade, particularly following its rise in public popularity, although advances in captive-breeding programs have helped reduce pressure on wild populations. Marine protected areas, sustainable fisheries management, and ongoing coral reef conservation initiatives continue to safeguard this colourful reef resident, ensuring it remains an important contributor to the health and diversity of tropical marine ecosystems.
