The Brass Matriarch celebrates the vivid colours and quiet confidence of one of Australia's most recognisable wetland amphibians. Resting upon a moss-covered stone at the edge of a tranquil marsh, the Green and Golden Bell Frog is illuminated by the warm glow of the setting sun. Its smooth skin displays a striking blend of emerald greens, olive tones, and rich golden-bronze markings that shimmer against the subdued colours of the surrounding wetland. The Green and Golden Bell Frog (Litoria aurea)
The Green and Golden Bell Frog, is among Australia's largest native tree frogs and is well known for its bold colouring and unusually active daytime behaviour. Unlike many frog species that remain concealed during daylight hours, it frequently basks in the sun along the margins of ponds, lagoons, and marshes, using warmth to regulate its body temperature before becoming active both day and night.
The species naturally inhabits coastal wetlands, floodplains, freshwater marshes, and lagoons throughout parts of eastern Australia, favouring areas with abundant aquatic vegetation and shallow water for breeding. Its strong jumping ability allows it to move easily between wetlands, while its broad diet of insects and other small invertebrates makes it an important predator within these ecosystems. Once widespread across south-eastern Australia, the Green and Golden Bell Frog became one of the country's best-known amphibians, admired for both its striking appearance and its close association with healthy coastal wetlands.

The Green and Golden Bell Frog has undergone one of the most significant amphibian declines in Australia. The spread of chytrid fungus has been a major factor in reducing wild populations, while the loss and fragmentation of coastal wetlands through urban development, drainage, and altered waterways have further restricted suitable breeding habitat. Introduced predators such as the Plague Minnow (Gambusia holbrooki), which feeds on eggs and tadpoles, also reduce breeding success, and declining water quality continues to affect many remaining wetlands.
Despite these challenges, the species is the focus of extensive conservation programs across its remaining range. Habitat restoration, captive breeding, disease research, population monitoring, and carefully managed reintroductions are helping establish secure populations in protected wetlands. The Green and Golden Bell Frog has become an important flagship species for wetland conservation, demonstrating how targeted scientific management and habitat protection can support the recovery of one of Australia's most recognisable amphibians.

We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
