Taurus is the second astrological sign of the zodiac, representing those born between April 20 and May 20.
Closely associated with the element of Earth and traditionally ruled by Venus, Taurus has long symbolised strength, stability, abundance, and the enduring beauty found throughout the natural world. Its origins, however, reach far beyond astrology into one of the most famous stories of Greek mythology.
According to ancient tradition, the constellation commemorates the occasion when Zeus transformed himself into an extraordinarily beautiful white bull to approach the Phoenician princess Europa. Captivated by the animal's gentle nature, Europa climbed onto its back, whereupon Zeus carried her across the sea to the island of Crete. Their arrival upon the island became one of the defining legends of Greek mythology, with Europa later becoming the namesake of the European continent. In recognition of this extraordinary event, Zeus placed the image of the bull among the stars as the constellation Taurus.
