PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Sun-Dappled Velvet celebrates the distinctive texture and quiet elegance of the Mini Rex Rabbit as it pauses among clover, meadow grasses, and weathered woodland timber. Positioned at the centre of the composition, the rabbit sits with an alert yet relaxed posture, surrounded by moss-covered stones, fallen branches, and fresh green vegetation that create a peaceful, meadow-like setting. Soft sunlight filters through the surrounding foliage, casting warm highlights across the scene while gently illuminating the rabbit's remarkably smooth coat.
Rich chestnut, cocoa, and warm mahogany tones blend seamlessly across the rabbit's compact form, complemented by creamy white markings beneath the chest and along the lower body. Its upright ears catch the light along their finely defined edges, while large, dark eyes provide a calm and engaging focal point. The textures of dew-touched clover, rugged bark, and velvety moss add depth and natural contrast without drawing attention away from the subject. Balanced light, earthy colours, and the rabbit's composed presence combine to create an intimate portrait that highlights both the breed's unique appearance and its gentle, attentive character.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Mini Rex Rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus)
The Mini Rex was developed in the United States during the 1980s after breeders recognised the appeal of the larger Rex Rabbit's distinctive coat and sought to produce a smaller companion breed with the same remarkable fur. Through careful selective breeding, the Mini Rex retained the characteristic Rex coat while developing a compact, well-balanced body and gentle temperament. It was officially recognised soon afterwards and has since become one of the world's most popular exhibition and companion rabbit breeds.
The defining feature of the Mini Rex is its unique fur structure. Unlike that of most rabbit breeds, where longer guard hairs extend beyond the softer undercoat, the hairs of the Mini Rex are short, dense, and of almost equal length. This creates the breed's famously plush, velvety texture, often compared to fine velvet or suede when gently stroked. Today, the Mini Rex is bred in a wide range of recognised colours and patterns, with breeders placing equal emphasis on coat quality, sound conformation, and temperament, preserving the characteristics that have made the breed so widely admired.
