PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Spring Nursery captures four young Saanen goats racing and sparring across a flower-filled alpine meadow. Two kids rise onto their hind legs near the centre of the composition, meeting briefly in a playful exchange, while another bounds forward through the grass. A smaller youngster appears between them, partially sheltered by the surrounding movement. Their raised hooves, lifted tails, and changing postures create a lively sequence that carries the eye across the sunlit pasture.

Clear morning light brightens their white coats with delicate tones of porcelain, soft cream, and pale gold. Yellow buttercups, white daisies, and fresh green grasses fill the foreground, adding fine texture beneath their feet. Beyond the group, weathered timber fencing traces the slopes towards scattered alpine farmhouses and distant snow-capped mountains. The stillness of the broad landscape provides a calm counterpoint to the animated youngsters. Filled with movement without becoming crowded, the scene preserves the exuberance of early life during the brief abundance of the mountain spring.

ABOUT THIS COLLECTION

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY

The Saanen goat (Capra hircus

The first months of a Saanen goat’s life establish the foundation for its future health and productivity. Balanced nutrition supports the development of bones, muscles, feet, and the digestive system, while protection from parasites, illness, and severe weather allows young animals to grow steadily without unnecessary strain.

Play contributes directly to this development. Running, jumping, climbing, and light sparring improve balance and coordination while teaching kids how to interpret the movements of their companions. These interactions also help establish the social awareness required for calm life within an adult dairy herd.

Future breeding animals are assessed gradually rather than selected on appearance alone. Farmers observe growth rate, sound movement, body capacity, temperament, and the performance of related animals. Young females intended to enter the milking herd must mature sufficiently before breeding, as premature pregnancy can compromise both growth and later production. Careful juvenile management therefore links animal welfare with the long-term success of the dairy enterprise, ensuring that each new generation develops the strength, confidence, and sound structure needed for adult life.
