Morning Watch in the Pasture captures the quiet dignity of a mist-laden dawn upon a traditional countryside homestead. The Standard Bronze Turkey (Meleagris gallopavo domesticus) is one of the oldest, largest, and most historically significant American heritage turkey breeds. Developed through natural crosses between the wild turkeys native to North America and domestic birds brought by early European colonists, the breed became the undisputed foundation of the American turkey industry for centuries. Renowned for their imposing stature and spectacular plumage, Standard Bronze turkeys possess feathers that gleam with metallic shades of copper, bronze, emerald green, and black when illuminated by sunlight. Prior to the rise of commercial broad-breasted varieties, they were among the most common turkeys found on farms throughout the United States, valued for both their beauty and practicality. Beyond their striking appearance, these birds are celebrated for their natural hardiness, longevity, and exceptional foraging instincts.
