PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Mohair Monarch centres upon a solitary Angora goat standing with quiet authority on an open hillside. Facing almost directly towards the viewer, the animal holds a composed, steady posture, its slender legs planted firmly upon a patch of worn earth and meadow grass. Broad horns sweep outwards in graceful, symmetrical curves, framing the head and giving the portrait its unmistakable silhouette. From the shoulders downward, a profusion of long ringlets envelops the body, transforming the goat’s fleece into the dominant visual feature of the composition.
Golden-hour light falls across the animal from one side, revealing layers of ivory, warm cream, and softly burnished gold within the mohair. Each curl is individually defined, while cooler shadows between the ringlets create depth and volume. Behind the goat, rustic timber fencing crosses rolling farmland softened by distance and atmospheric haze. The subdued browns and muted greens of the countryside allow the luminous fleece to remain the central focus. Balanced, restrained, and richly detailed, the scene conveys the distinctive stature of a breed shaped around an extraordinary natural fibre.

The Angora goat (Capra hircus)
The Angora goat takes its name from Ankara, historically known in Europe as Angora, in the central Anatolian region of modern Türkiye. Goats producing fine, lustrous fleece were maintained there for centuries, and early European travellers described animals whose long white coats appeared remarkably delicate and silk-like. Careful selection by pastoral communities gradually established the elegant, horned breed recognised today.
For generations, the export of breeding animals was limited, allowing the Ankara region to retain control over a valuable textile resource. During the nineteenth century, however, Angora goats became established beyond Türkiye. Flocks were introduced to South Africa, the United States, Australia, and later New Zealand, creating new centres of mohair production adapted to very different landscapes.
The fibre entered international textile markets because it combined lustre with considerable strength and durability. It was spun into dress fabrics, furnishings, upholstery, and specialist yarns, often blended with other fibres to improve sheen and resilience. The global movement of the Angora goat therefore linked remote pastoral districts with mills, merchants, designers, and consumers, transforming a regional Anatolian breed into the foundation of an international natural-fibre industry.
