PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
First Journey portrays a young Ccara llama taking careful steps beside its mother along a narrow mountain trail overlooking the sweeping valleys of the Andes. The cria walks with growing confidence, its long legs carrying it across the uneven path while the attentive adult remains close behind. Sunlight washes across the rocky slopes, illuminating native grasses, alpine flowers, and weathered stone as distant snow-covered mountains frame the peaceful scene.
The gentle interaction between mother and offspring forms the emotional heart of the composition. Warm tones within their coats contrast beautifully with the cooler blues and greys of the surrounding peaks, while the winding trail naturally leads the eye towards the expansive landscape beyond. Every element reinforces the sense of guidance and discovery, celebrating the earliest stages of life for a young llama learning to navigate one of the world's most spectacular mountain environments.
ABOUT THIS COLLECTION
#aboutThisCollection
BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Ccara Llama (Lama glama)
Young llamas, known as crias, are generally able to stand and nurse within a short time of birth. Their early mobility is essential in open pastoral environments, where the herd may need to move between grazing areas, water sources, and sheltered ground.
During the first months of life, crias remain close to their mothers while learning through observation and repeated experience. Following adults across rocky tracks helps them develop balance, coordination, and confidence on uneven terrain. They also become familiar with herd calls, resting patterns, grazing behaviour, and the social boundaries maintained between individuals.
Physical development occurs gradually. Young animals are not expected to carry working loads, and responsible training begins only after sufficient growth and conditioning. Early journeys therefore provide preparation rather than labour, allowing the cria to acquire the calm movement and environmental awareness required in adulthood. These formative experiences help preserve the sure-footedness, confidence, and steady temperament traditionally associated with working Ccara llamas.
