The Lusitano (Equus ferus caballus) few horse breeds are more closely associated with classical horsemanship than the Lusitano. Portuguese breeders carefully refined the breed for balance, agility, responsiveness, and collection, producing horses capable of performing complex movements with remarkable precision. Their natural ability to shift weight onto the hindquarters, combined with exceptional coordination and willingness, made them ideally suited to both cavalry manoeuvres and the refined traditions of classical riding.
Today the Lusitano remains one of the world's most admired dressage and working equitation horses. Riders value the breed for its expressive movement, athletic versatility, and harmonious partnership that allows even demanding exercises to appear graceful and effortless.
