Capricorn is the tenth astrological sign of the zodiac, representing those born between December 22 and January 19.

Ruled by Saturn and aligned with the element of Earth, Capricorn has long symbolised perseverance, discipline, ambition, and the quiet determination to overcome life's greatest challenges. Unlike many zodiac signs, Capricorn has been represented throughout history in more than one form, with the Sea-Goat standing as its oldest and most enduring symbol.

According to Greek mythology, the Sea-Goat is closely associated with the god Pan. During the terrifying assault of the monstrous Typhon upon Mount Olympus, the gods fled to escape the creature's overwhelming power. Pan leapt into the River Nile in an attempt to hide, but his transformation was only partially completed, leaving him with the forequarters of a mountain goat and the tail of a fish. In recognition of Pan's quick thinking and his warning that allowed the Olympian gods to escape, Zeus placed this remarkable form among the stars as the constellation Capricorn.

This artwork honours that ancient tradition by depicting the Sea-Goat basking peacefully where mountain and water meet.
