PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Winter Coat centres upon a solitary Cashmere goat standing on a snow-covered outcrop during a passing mountain snowfall. Its broad body and firmly planted legs create a steady focal point against the fractured ridges and glacial valleys beyond. Sweeping horns rise above the head, while a dense, shaggy coat envelops the neck, chest, and flanks in deep layers, visually insulating the animal from the severe landscape surrounding it.
Soft winter light reveals subtle variations of oatmeal, pale silver, muted caramel, and frosted cream throughout the fleece. Coarse outer hairs catch individual snowflakes, while the fuller coat beneath creates depth and volume around the body. The goat’s lower legs darken towards earthy brown, grounding its pale form against the white terrain. Behind it, serrated peaks recede through bands of cloud and drifting snow, their cool blue-grey tones contrasting with the warmer fleece. Restrained in colour yet rich in texture, the composition captures an animal standing quietly within conditions of remarkable cold, exposure, and scale.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Cashmere goat (Capra hircus)
Cashmere is not a separate outer fleece but a fine insulating undercoat that grows beneath longer, coarser guard hairs. As daylight shortens and temperatures fall, the goat develops this soft layer to trap warm air close to the skin. When spring returns, the undercoat loosens and is naturally shed.
Traditional herders collected the fibre by combing animals during the moulting period, separating the valuable down from the protective outer hair. In some modern systems the fleece may be shorn, after which the cashmere must be carefully dehaired. The resulting fibre is graded according to qualities including diameter, length, colour, cleanliness, and uniformity. The finest fibres create exceptionally light textiles capable of providing considerable warmth without heaviness.
Producing high-quality cashmere requires careful timing. Harvesting too early may remove fibre before it has loosened naturally, while waiting too long risks losing it to the landscape. The celebrated softness of cashmere therefore begins with a seasonal biological process, followed by patient collection, skilled sorting, and meticulous preparation before the fibre ever reaches a spinner or loom.
