PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Twilight Exodus captures the sweeping departure of a Grey-headed Flying-fox colony as hundreds of animals stream into the evening sky. Large foreground figures cross above a vast coastal landscape with wings fully extended, their dark forms warmed by the final amber light of sunset. Behind them, countless silhouettes spread toward the horizon, creating the impression of a living aerial pathway stretching across the fading sky.
Far below, rivers and tidal channels wind through forest, wetland and distant islands before reaching the sea. Reflected light traces their curves through the darkening landscape, while flowering treetops form a richly textured canopy beneath the flight. The broad perspective gives the scene a powerful sense of distance and movement, balancing the detail of individual animals with the scale of the colony beyond. Warm gold, soft rose and deepening violet merge across the sky as daylight gives way to night, capturing one of Australia’s most impressive natural movements at the moment thousands of separate journeys begin.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Grey-headed Flying-fox is highly mobile mammals whose movements follow changing supplies of nectar, pollen and native fruit. An individual may travel more than 50 kilometres during a single night, while seasonal journeys can extend for hundreds of kilometres along eastern Australia. These movements allow colonies to respond to flowering events that shift continually between regions.
Their nightly flights perform an ecological task that few other animals can match. Pollen carried on the fur is transferred between widely separated trees, while seeds from native fruits may be deposited well beyond the parent plant. This supports genetic exchange, forest regeneration and the recovery of vegetation after disturbance.
Scientists often describe flying-foxes as mobile links because they connect forests divided by farmland, roads and expanding settlements. A colony leaving its roost is therefore participating in a process much larger than the search for food. Each animal carries the possibility of new growth across the landscape, helping maintain the forests, wetlands and coastal habitats through which it travels.

The long-term survival of the Grey-headed Flying-fox depends upon a wide network of feeding forests rather than any single reserve. The species follows seasonal flowering over large distances, so the loss of trees in one region can affect animals that roost or breed many kilometres away. Protecting isolated camps alone cannot secure a population whose survival depends on movement across much of eastern Australia.
Clearing of coastal forest, wetland vegetation and productive winter-flowering habitat remains a major threat. Fragmentation can force animals to travel farther between food sources or gather within urban areas when natural blossoms fail. Drought, bushfire and climate-driven changes in flowering may create widespread shortages that affect breeding success and adult survival.
Recovery efforts focus on identifying and protecting the most important feeding habitats, restoring forest corridors and monitoring camps through the National Flying-fox Monitoring Program. Maintaining connected landscapes allows colonies to continue their seasonal movements while preserving the pollination and seed dispersal they provide. Protecting these aerial travellers ultimately supports the renewal of entire forest systems along Australia’s eastern coast.

We use Australia Post for all domestic and international shipping, with delivery times varying according to destination, carrier demand and customs process where applicable. As we are based in Western Australia, delivery typically takes approximately 2–4 business days within Western Australia and 3–6 business days for interstate destinations within Australia following dispatch.
