PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Sun-Basked King celebrates the rugged charm, ancient character, and quiet confidence of one of Australia's most familiar reptiles. Resting upon a weathered eucalyptus log, an adult Bearded Dragon basks beneath the warm glow of the afternoon sun, its head raised proudly as shafts of golden light filter through the woodland canopy. The peaceful bush setting of fallen timber, scattered leaves, native grasses, and sunlit stone reflects the dry forests and open woodlands the species calls home.
The composition draws attention to the dragon's remarkable textures. Fine rows of overlapping scales shimmer in the light, while the distinctive spiny beard and robust body create a striking contrast against the smooth grain of the fallen log. Calm yet alert, the lizard appears perfectly at ease within its surroundings, embodying the resilience and adaptability that have allowed Bearded Dragons to flourish across much of Australia. This artwork celebrates an enduring icon of the Australian bush, capturing both the quiet dignity and timeless character of one of the country's most beloved reptiles.

BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The Bearded Dragon (Pogona spp.)
Bearded Dragons are among Australia's most recognisable lizards, inhabiting open woodlands, shrublands, grasslands, and semi-arid regions across much of the continent. As ectothermic reptiles, they rely on the warmth of the sun to regulate their body temperature, spending long periods basking before becoming active to forage for insects, flowers, fruits, and other small prey.
Their name comes from the expandable throat pouch, or "beard," which can darken and flare dramatically during territorial disputes, courtship, or when responding to potential threats. Bearded Dragons also communicate through distinctive head-bobbing, arm-waving, and body postures, making them one of Australia's most expressive reptile groups. Their calm temperament, adaptability, and fascinating behaviour have earned them admiration both in the wild and around the world, while their story remains firmly rooted in Australia's sun-baked landscapes.

CONSERVATION INFORMATION.

This design donates to animal and conservation efforts
Most species within the genus Pogona are currently classified as Least Concern and maintain widespread, stable populations across much of Australia. Their adaptability to a variety of woodland, grassland, and semi-arid habitats has contributed to their long-term success in both natural and modified landscapes.
Although generally secure, local populations can be affected by habitat clearing, road mortality, altered fire regimes, and predation by introduced animals such as foxes and feral cats. Illegal collection of wild individuals has also occurred in the past, although legal protections and captive breeding have reduced pressure on native populations. Continued conservation of Australia's native woodlands, shrublands, and arid ecosystems will help ensure these charismatic lizards remain a familiar and enduring part of the Australian landscape.
